Job Summary


Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor, the Managing Executive Director of Development for the Medical Center/Hospital will be responsible for securing major gifts ($50,000+) for Health Sciences. The Managing Executive Director of Development is responsible for managing a prospect/donor portfolio in various stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. This position will manage key initiatives by creating a comprehensive, long-term development plan for the area, building strong relationships with faculty; and by providing updates and information to the Development Senior Leadership Team.The Managing Executive Director of Development will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major giving prospects/donors with a capacity to make a gift of $50k or more. These will include business owners, executives, physicians, community leaders, philanthropic leaders, and corporations and foundations. The Managing Executive Director of Development will be directly responsible for 75 - 150 prospect/donors and will have an annual revenue goal of $1M or more that will increase during tenure. Solicitations will be directed toward high priority hospital projects for building, equipment, programmatic, and endowment needs as defined by the Health System Executive Leadership Team.The Managing Executive Director of Development will actively team with other development staff including other development directors, the Assistant Vice Chancellor, and University Development on campus to include the entire philanthropy team. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for specific hospital service lines as well as other high priority projects. The Managing Executive Director of Development will generate the follow-through with complex solicitation plans; develop a case for support; identify and recruit a compelling solicitation team of physicians, volunteers and senior executives in collaboration with director and development staff. Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience recruiting, training, evaluating, motivating, and coaching employees of various backgrounds and identities. Documented experience building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst team members.Minimum of four (4) or more years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience managing a major gift portfolio and securing major gifts of $50,000 or more, preferably in health sciences and/or higher education with experience in an academic health system preferred, including knowledge of proven cultivation and solicitation.Demonstrated knowledge of leadership/management concepts, procedures, techniques and best practices.Demonstrated leadership/management skills to select, train, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff.Demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including excellent political acumen skills, to build and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.Proven success as a development officer in a highly sophisticated donor-centered fund-raising environment as a direct line fundraiser in meeting predetermined goals and objectives, including securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals.Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, persuasion/negotiation skills and marketing skills.Demonstrated experience effectively structuring and working with advisory boards and interest groups.Experience working with and mentoring volunteers and volunteer leaders and working with patients.Demonstrated ability to lead and manage colleagues and prepare and manage budgets.Demonstrated interpersonal and team-building skills to establish good working relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, volunteers and university representatives, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, professionalism and discretion.Excellent knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations including advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera.Exhibit knowledge of organizational effectiveness and health and safety and a commitment to diversity.Knowledge of applicable computer skills: WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Salary or Pay Range: Departmental Budgeted Salary is up to $195,000/yr., commensurate with experience.
Full Salary Scale for FUNDRAISING MGR 2 is $112,400/yr. - $246,000/yr.
